Local knowledge is now considered important for organizing the fabric of society. By getting to know local
knowledge, a nation will know its own civilization. This ancestral legacy is a strength in facing competition
on the global stage. In local knowledge data and information are stored regarding unique local
characteristics, knowledge, community experience in dealing with problems and needs as well as solutions.
This research aims to find out and examine the local knowledge of the Pasaman community in Rao District
regarding the tradition of abstaining from land for children of Rajo descent. The tradition of abstaining
from land is an example of local wisdom that must be obeyed and taught to the next generation. The
community maintains the existence of this tradition because there are several myths about this tradition
and the community also believes that if a child steps on the ground before the descent event is held, the
child will have a fever, stomach ache and experience other illnesses. The methodology used is a descriptive
