ABSTRACT
This research aims to explore and understand the local wisdom of Salawaik Dulang in Solok City and
ensure its impact on the lives of local people. Using a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods,
this research collects data through observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. Data analysis was
carried out using narrative analysis techniques to interpret the meaning and function of local wisdom in
the current socio-cultural context. The results of the research show that Salawaik Dulang is not only a
cultural heritage but also a unifying tool and a means of community character education for the younger
generation. This practice has been proven to increase cohesiveness and a sense of belonging among
residents. Further discussion reveals that adaptation and innovation in Salawaik Dulang practices are the
keys to cultural preservation amidst the current of modernization. The conclusion of this research is that
Salawaik Dulang has an important role in strengthening the cultural and social identity of the people of
Solok City. The suggestion given is the need for supporting programs from the regional government to
promote and integrate the values in Salawaik Dulang into sustainable development policies, especially in
the fields of education and tourism.
